Today, Sunday, the administration of Baghdad International Airport announced the suspension of flights to the airport, due to bad weather conditions and visibility below 500 meters.
The airport administration said in a statement: “It was decided to stop air traffic for today”, explaining that the movements of the aircraft in entrance e in departure will return to normal if the weather conditions improve, according to the Iraqi news agency.
At the same time, Najaf International Airport announced the suspension of its flights due to sandstorms.
Interestingly, sandstorms are frequent in Iraq, which is a country semi- desert, above all in spring.
Iraq is also one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change and desertification. Droughts are becoming more frequent, with summer temperatures that can stay above 50 degrees for several days.
