Baldur’s Gate 3: A Game with Freedom and Accessibility for All, but Incomprehensible Subtleties for Some

As a reminder, Baldur’s Gate 3 is the new opus of the franchise, it was released on PC on August 3, 2023 and will be released on PS5 on September 6, 2023. This title leaves a lot of freedom, apart from certain explanations, it allows the players to experiment and have failures that help them understand the mechanism. It can also be accessible to all thanks to the many possibilities to advance. For Pablo, Baldur’s Gate 3 is intuitive, despite some elements that are difficult to understand at first, it is quickly possible to enter the most important commands. This third installment of Baldur’s Gate is playable even for those who have never participated in the Dungeons and Dragons RPG. One of the reasons is that it is possible to advance in the adventure without knowing certain actions. Larian Studio made sure there were no wrong choices or dead ends. Another element that allows accessibility to all is the explanation of the advantages and disadvantages that the player has during a combat.
Incomprehensible subtleties
Although Baldur’s Gate 3 is accessible because of its freedom and its many possibilities to advance, many subtleties are not. It is still important to know the basics of the Dungeons and Dragons universe in order to understand the background of the title. For example, a person with no knowledge cannot understand statistics. The player can see that they increase, but no explanation is revealed as to how. The problem is also present for the fights. They are, in fact, always turn-based even during explorations, which can be complex for some. The lack of information can also be a strong point. Larian Studio has chosen not to tell the whole story of the universe and therefore not to overwhelm the player with sometimes useless information in this RPG. The latter is still much more difficult for those who are not at all familiar with Dungeons and Dragons and can “miss 80% of the game’s mechanics” according to Aymeric.
