Banque du Liban source denies Riad Salameh’s resignation rumors

A high-level source from the Banque du Liban denied to Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath reports that Governor Riad Salameh had presented his resignation letter to interim prime minister Najib Mikati.

The source confirmed that Salama will remain in his post until the end of his mandate after 5 months.

A newspaper announced in its Thursday issue that “Governor Salama has filed Mikati’s resignation letter with his signature, but without specifying the date, in awaiting the appropriate time to announce it in the light of judicial developments”.

This comes after the Lebanese state, represented by the head of the Judiciary at the Justice Ministry, Judge Helena Iskandar, filed a personal complaint against the governor of the Banque du Liban and his brother Raja and Marianne Howayek, according to the Prosecutor’s Appellate Office in Beirut.

He called for their arrest, the confiscation of their real estate and the freezing of their bank accounts and the accounts of their spouses and minor children, to prevent them from disposing of them in order to preserve the rights of the Lebanese state.

Judge Helena Iskandar explained to Al-Arabiya.net that “the lawsuit against Salameh has nothing to do with the European judicial representation”, noting that “when the hearings against him by the European investigators conclude, the investigating judge sets a date for the hearing in the case of the accusation against him.” Discriminatory prosecutor.

He also explained that “he should have complained against the Governor of the Banque du Liban, his brother and his assistance before the current March 15, but the arrival of the European delegation in Lebanon and your request to hear from you in this date prompted it to postpone the complaint to yesterday.
