Battleborn shuts down and removes the game from the digital stores

Gearbox Software is the “sunset” of its 2016 online multiplayer Battleborn game, which will go offline in January 2021 and will no longer be playable. The developer announced the end of the game in a series of tweets and an official support notice on the website of the publisher 2K Games.

The process of the sunset has already begun; 2K has removed Battleborn from the digital stores and the game can no longer be downloaded from PlayStation Store, Steam and Xbox Games Store.

Gearbox and 2K discontinue the sale of virtual currencies – platinum in Battleborn – on February 24, 2020. The servers of the game remain active and the game continues to be playable until January 2021, according to 2K, but after that Battleborn will be unplayable – including the single-player campaign of the game.

The developers say they are ending support for Battleborn to focus their efforts and resources on other projects.

Battleborn was released in May 2016 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. The hero-shooter was praised for his ambition, but critics knocked on Gearbox’s game because it was grind-heavy and overly complicated. Battleborn also had the misfortune to start just before the much more successful Overwatch, with which it was often compared. Battleborn was able to play for free in June 2017 and Gearbox released the final update of the game in the following September.
