The Russian foreign ministry recalled its ambassador on Friday in Sri Lanka, saying the country should clarify the situation as soon as possible.
The plane, an Airbus A330, was supposed to bring Russian tourists back in Russia, but was held at Colombo airport last Thursday, at least until June 16.
It was reported that this shift occurred following a court decision at the request of an Irish charter company which claimed that the aircraft belonged to them.
On Friday, Airflot said it was making efforts to get stranded passengers back in Sri Lanka and has suspended the sale of new tickets.
