Belmadi continues to coach the Algerian national team until the 2026 World Cup

Algeria: Jahid Zvizef, President of the Algerian Football Association, has revealed that Djamel Belmadi, coach of the “Desert Warriors” will remain in his post until the 2026 World Cup. Belmadi’s contract with the Algerian Federation expired at the end of last March, but continued in the his position, although he has not renewed his contract until now. “Belmadi decided last Ramadan to continue coaching the national team, from that moment there is no need to talk about renewing his contract,” Zvezev told Algerian radio today, Friday. He will remain in his post until the 2026 World Cup. Zvezf has instead refused to reveal the names of players with double nationals candidates to cheer for the Algerian national team, noting that it is still too early to decide the identity of the team’s new sporting director. Zvizev revealed that the Algerian Federation will sign an agreement with an international sportswear company next month on preferential terms over previous contracts. He also recalled that the Algerian Federation will appoint a national technical director at the beginning of next December, in replacement of the national Tawfiq Quraishi, who holds the position on behalf. Zvezf expressed his annoyance at the negative behavior of some fans, especially the lack of respect for the national anthem of the teams in race and for riots in league competition, suggesting that a campaign would be launched in which Belmadi and the players of the first team would participate to curb these behaviors that damage the reputation of Algeria. Zvezf confirmed that Algeria will submit its bid to host the 2025 African Nations Cup, when the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will announce the opening of the candidature door, which should take place between April and June 2023. The president of the Algerian Federation highlighted that the Executive Committee of the “CAF” “will meet twice in Algeria next year, the first in January and the second in April. (Dpa)
