Berlin: Release Date, Trailer, Plot, Cast, and Everything We Know So Far

Most of the time, when a character dies in a story, their journey is over. But Andrés de Fonollosa, aka Berlin, from Money Heist (La Casa de Papel), is not one of them. In the new spin-off series Berlin, we’ll learn about the con man’s life before he joined The Professor’s gang. It’s safe to say that fans were left with a huge hole when the popular Netflix show ended last December after five seasons of solid characters, a gripping story, and mind-blowing cinematography. We wanted more, especially of this one character whom everyone both loves and hates. So, the franchise is back with a new series with Berlin as the main character, and it tells the story of who and what he was before Money Heist. The new series, which is called after a well-known character, comes before the events of Money Heist.

Andres de Fonollosa is a cold, intelligent, sharp-as-a-whip con man and jewel thief. Berlin follows him and his gang and shows how he becomes the mysterious criminal we love to hate. The show is made by the same people who made the parent show. The showrunner is lex Pina, and Esther Martnez Lobato is one of the writers. During its run, Money Heist was the most-watched show on Netflix, and its fans changed the world. So it will be expected that Berlin will do the same. The upcoming prequel will be a big deal, and we can’t wait for Pedro Alonso to play the iconic character again. His award-winning performance made us laugh, cry, and cringe.

While you wait for the series to be available on a streaming service, check out our complete guide to everything we know about Berlin, including the plot, characters, actors, how the show was filmed, and more.

When Is Berlin Coming Out?

We know Berlin will be on Netflix in December 2023 because of their most recent announcement.

Also, we can tell you that Netflix plans to release season 1 of Berlin on December 29, 2023.

Is There a Berlin Trailer?

Berlin’s official trailer shouldn’t be out yet, and there isn’t one right now, either. But the streaming network has a fun clip showing the spin-off series’s brand-new cast. In the character trailer, there are new faces of people on Berlin’s team before Money Heist. With suspenseful music in the background, the one-minute clip shows each new character, with Berlin at the head of the gang. Even though it doesn’t tell you much about the story, the video should give you a good idea of who’s who in the new show. Check back here for more clips and the official Berlin trailer as they become available.

Who Created Berlin?

As was said above, Berlin was written by Esther Martnez Lobato and made by Alex Pina, who made Money Heist. There are also writers named David Oliva and David Barrocal. Pina is also in charge of making the show. Barrocal, Albert Pintó and Geoffrey Cowper also directed the series. Pina is a well-known Spanish TV producer, director, and writer. He is known for creating and producing shows like Los Serrano, Los Hombres de Paco, Vis a vis, and El embarcadero. He also wrote and directed the British-Spanish mystery thriller White Lines, which will come out in 2020, and the Spanish black comedy action series Sky Rojo, which will be shown on Netflix.

Labato is also a writer and a producer. He has worked with Pina and Barrocal on Money Heist, where they both made some episodes. She has also written for and run the shows Sky Rojo, Los Hombres de Paco, El Embarcadero, and White Lines. Oliva has written for several movies and TV shows, such as Sky Rojo, Paraiso, and Stolen Away.

How Many Episodes Are There in Berlin?

The first season of Berlin will have eight episodes (with the possibility of more seasons to look forward to). Aside from that, we don’t know much about when their episodes will air, but stay tuned for updates.

What Is the Background of Berlin?

As was already said, Berlin is a spin-off of the hit Spanish crime-thriller series Money Heist, which ran for five seasons and was watched worldwide. In the first series, “The Professor/El Professor,” a mysterious mastermind puts together a group of skilled thieves and plans a big heist at the Royal Mint of Spain. Money Heist was a massive hit with fans, critics, and people from all over the world. This led to a series of shows, video games, art, and documentaries. From 2017 to 2021, the show was on, and it caused both conversations and arguments. Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, a spin-off and remake from Korea, came out in 2022.

Berlin is the second spin-off from the main series. This time, it’s about one of the main characters from the main series. Andres/Berlin is The Professor’s older brother. We learn that he has a disease that will kill him during the first season of the parent show. In the second part of Money Heist, Berlin gives up his life so that the rest of his gang doesn’t get caught after the heist. Even though he is dead, he comes back in flashbacks in the following three parts of the series. We learn about his life before the Royal Mint heist and how he planned the Bank of Spain heist, the second heist that The Professor and his crew pull off. The upcoming prequel series will show us what Berlin did before meeting the rest of the Money Heist gang.

The Plot of Berlin?

The story of Berlin takes place before the events of the Money Heist. It is said to be about his past adventures, how he changed, and other things. The people who made the show said he used to have his gang and pull off big robberies all over Europe. Alex Pina and Pedro Alonso talked about Berlin at a Netflix global event. They said it was about “a trip through the golden age of the character when he robbed around Europe crazy in love.” It’s mostly about white-collar crimes, but there’s also tension, travel, romance, and, most interestingly, a sense of humor.

Berlin will be a “love and heists” story that goes deep into Andres’s past before he became Berlin and what made him that way. So, if you thought Berlin’s death in Money Heist was the end of his journey, you’re in for a series full of surprises and excitement from this thief who can’t be stopped.
