Best True Wireless Earbuds For 2022

The market for truly wireless earbuds has grown a lot in the last few years, and there are a lot of them now. If you want to buy wireless headphones, Apple’s AirPods and AirPods Pro are still the best sellers. But there are a lot of great options out there, many of which are new for 2022 and have better audio quality. The AirPods and the AirPods Pro, on the other hand, have only Apple-only features like hands-free Siri and spatial audio with head tracking in the case of the AirPods Pro. Some of these buds are better for Android users who can’t use these features.

The best wireless earbuds have an ergonomic design that not only makes them stay in place but also makes them comfortable to wear for a long time. Make sure you get a good seal when you’re using noise-isolating headphones with ear tips like the AirPods Pro. This will help improve sound quality and noise-canceling performance when you’re listening to music (the standard AirPods have an open design). If you can’t get a good fit with in-ear headphones, you’ll likely feel like you were cheated. I recommend buying your wireless earbuds from a vendor that has a good return policy, like Amazon, so that you can get your money back. People who aren’t satisfied with the earbuds in any way, from how well the touch controls work to how long the buds last on a single charge, can return them.

This list is all about the best wireless earbuds. Also, we have lists for wireless headphones, the best-sounding true wireless earbuds, and the best cheap true wireless earbuds under $100 that we think are worth your money. I’ll keep this list up to date as we review new wireless earbuds.

Sony WF-1000XM4
Sony WF-1000XM4

No earbuds are perfect, of course, and not everybody will love the fit of the Sony WF-1000XM4 buds or be able to afford their high price. But if you’re looking for great-sounding earbuds with great noise canceling, solid voice-calling capabilities and good battery life, these buds check all the boxes.

Apple AirPods Pro
Apple AirPods Pro

For $249, you might think the Apple AirPods Pro would sound like something out of the movies. But even though they don’t sound as good as you’d expect, they work well as true wireless earphones and have noise cancelation. It’s because they have a great design and fit, better bass performance, and effective noise canceling. Now, these true wireless headphones have been updated with spatial audio, which is a new virtual-sound mode for watching movies and TV shows (only works with iPhones and iPads running iOS 14).

They’re great if you want to call or listen to music while you work out. It’s true that they cost $250, but the good news is that they usually sell for $200 to $220.

Bose QuietComfort Earbuds
Bose QuietComfort Earbuds

New noise-canceling earbuds from Bose took a long time to get into stores, but the new $279 QuietComfort Earbuds are finally in stores now. When it comes to sound and noise-canceling, they’re great truly wireless earbuds. That’s because they have the best sound and noise-canceling out there at the moment. They are clearly better at what they do than Apple’s best-selling AirPods Pro true wireless noise-canceling earphones, which are sold by the company. This is true, but the AirPod Pro has a small design, is a little more comfortable to wear, and has better voice-calling features than Bose. It all comes down to what your priorities are.

Samsung wireless earbuds
Samsung wireless earbuds

Recently, I have been a big fan of Samsung’s new Galaxy true-wireless earphones. My ears fit well with the Galaxy Buds Plus, and they have become one of the best true-wireless values. They can be found online for less than $100 at times. In addition, the Galaxy Buds Live, which has been on sale for a while, has an open design that is both discreet and innovative. I like to run and bike with them. It’s finally here: the $200 Galaxy Buds Pro, which Samsung has been working on for a long time, has better sound and high expectations. No, Buds Live also have noise canceling, but it’s not very good.

A lot of people think that the Buds Pro looks good. How good you think they are will depend on how well they fit in your ears. Apple has a similar feature called “space audio,” but Samsung’s new 360 Audio feature only works with the new Galaxy S21 phones. It’s possible that over time, firmware upgrades will make small changes, and we’ll get some discounts sooner rather than later.

The second-generation Momentum True Wireless 2 aren’t cheap, but they’re a better choice for true wireless earphones than the originals. They have a slightly smaller, more comfortable design, active noise canceling that can match the AirPods Pro, better battery life (up to seven hours instead of four), and better noise reduction during calls. And if you don’t like these Bluetooth earbuds in black, there is now a white version of them that you can buy. For true wireless earbuds, the Momentum True Wireless 2 have the same great sound as the AirPods Pro. This means that for true wireless earbuds, they sound better than the AirPods Pro. Earned:

These have Bluetooth 5.1 and can use the AAC and aptX codecs (for phones with aptX, like Samsung’s Galaxy phones).

Water-resistantYes (IPX4 rating — splash-proof).

Finally, Bowers and Wilkins is out with two sets of true wireless earbuds: the PI7 ($399) and the PI5 ($249), both of which are very good and have active noise canceling and a transparent mode that lets you listen to music without hearing it. The PI7 has a different driver design, and it sounds a little more detailed and refined with a little more bass. They both sound great, but if you’re looking for the best set of earbuds, the PI7 is arguably the best, beating the Sony WF-1000XM4 by a small amount. Besides, they sound better than the great Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless II and Master & Dynamic MW08.

While the PI7’s noise canceling is good, the Sony’s noise-canceling is better. Because it has better noise reduction, people can hear you better when they’re in noisy places, and it has more battery life.

The PI7’s case can be turned into a Bluetooth transceiver, so you can plug it into your laptop to stream AptX music or use an in-flight entertainment system with it. You can’t get that with the PI5, but it’s still a good thing to have. Even so, if sound quality is important to you, the PI7 might be worth the money if you can afford them. Maybe their prices will go down over time.

The PI5 buds also sound great and are a little lighter than the PI7. The Sony 1000XM4 costs $280, and the PI5 costs $250. It’s the same with all in-ear headphones. You have tried them on to see how they fit your ears. It could be that Bowers & Wilkins’ buds fit your ears better than Sony’s, or the other way around.

Note that despite their high price these earbuds are currently out of stock everywhere but should return soon.

Beats Studio Buds
Beats Studio Buds

The Beats Studio Buds look a lot like the AirPods that have been rumored to come with no wires. They’re good for both iOS and Android users, but they don’t have a lot of important features for Apple users. There is no H1 or W1 chip. If you want better noise canceling than the AirPods Pro, you’ll have to buy the AirPods Pro. They have a transparency mode and are good for making calls. Finally, their fit and sound quality are their main selling points. They’re also about $50 cheaper than the AirPods Pro, which are about the same price.

Water-resistantYes (IPX4 rating — splash-proof).

edifier buds

There are a few new true wireless earbuds from Edifier. Most of them, like the TWS 330NB, are good deals. TWS 330NB buds don’t have a sensor that stops your music when you take them out of your ears, but they have very good sound quality for the money, decent active noise canceling with a transparent mode, and good voice calling. They also don’t have a lot of extra features (they have three microphones in each bud for noise canceling and noise reduction during calls).

I like how they fit in my ears, and though the touch controls are a little limited, I can set them up with the Edifier Connect app for iOS and Android (you can also set the level of touch sensitivity). When the noise canceling is on, the battery lasts for four hours with it on and five hours when it’s off. They have an IP54 rating, which means they’re water and dust-proof (at moderate volume levels). That’s all right, but you get two more charges in the charging case as well. They also come in black.

Master & Dynamic's earlier MW07
Master & Dynamic’s earlier MW07

In the past, Master and Dynamic’s MW07 and MW07 Plus headphones had a great sound for true wireless, but they didn’t have a lot of extra features and weren’t very good at making phone calls. New for 2021, the MW08 has a lot of big changes, like better noise canceling and call quality. This makes it one of the best models for 2021. At $299, they’re not cheap.

When you listen to music at 50% volume, the battery lasts about 12 hours, up from 10 hours for the MW07 Plus. The earbuds have active noise cancellation with three microphones in each earbud. Noise reduction during calls isn’t as good as with the AirPods Pro, but overall call quality has been better. The noise-canceling on the MW07 Plus was not very good. The noise-canceling on the MW08 is a lot better, though.

There are two levels of noise-canceling and two levels of transparency in the new M&D Connect app for Apple iOS and Android. You can hear the outside world to a different level depending on how much you open the app. The app doesn’t have a way to change the sound profile right now. I’m fine with that because the sound profile is just right for me. Each earbud has a physical button that you can press to control playback, not a touch control.

Because these earphones don’t fit everyone’s ears the same, not everyone will be able to get a good seal with them. They have a unique look and good sound (I was able to get a secure fit with the largest tip). In terms of sound, they have more of an audiophile sound profile, with smooth, well-balanced sound and clear bass. These headphones now have new 11mm drivers, which give the bass a little more punch and make the music a little clear. Works well with all types of music.

In addition to a stainless-steel charging case, the MW08 comes in a variety of colors for $300. The case is small, but it has more weight than your typical bud case. I like the matte finish of the cases that come with the black and blue versions better than the shiny ones. You also get a second pouch for safekeeping (yes, the charging case can get scratched up if you leave it in a bag).

This means that these truly wireless earbuds now support both the aptX and AAC audio codecs. They also have a range of more than 20 meters, says Master & Dynamic.

Anker Soundcore
Anker Soundcore

Soundcore Liberty Air 2 Pro ($130), the first earbuds from Anker that have active noise canceling, are mostly great. They’re true wireless headphones that cost less than Apple AirPod Pro, and they do a good job.

I didn’t like the ear tips that came with the headphones. I had to use other tips to get a good seal, which is important for both noise-canceling and sound quality. Better than Anker’s Liberty Air 2: The sound quality is better, and the noise-canceling works well. For making phone calls, these also work well. They come in a variety of colors. Their price sometimes drops to $100, so look for a chance to buy them.

Water-resistantYes (IPX4 rating — splash-proof). Read our Anker Soundcore Liberty Air 2 Pro review.

Samsung Galaxy Bud

It doesn’t matter what you say about how they look, the Samsung Galaxy Buds Live might be the most interesting true wireless earbuds that have come out this year. They look like little bean-shaped things. They are open, so you don’t have to shove an ear tip into your ears. They’re also more comfortable to wear and fit my ears better than the AirPods, which I don’t like as much. Because not all ears are the same size, it’s also true that not all people have the same ears. It doesn’t look like there is a white pipe coming out of these wireless headphones. A lot of people don’t notice that they’re there.

There is a lot of background noise that makes it hard for people to hear you on the phone, but if you want to make phone calls, these have good sound and work well as headsets. It doesn’t matter that they have noise-canceling, because the noise canceling isn’t as strong as the noise canceling in earbuds that are made to block out noise. You should buy them for their looks and sounds, not because they have noise-canceling features.

Water-resistantYes (IPX2 rating — sweat-resistant and protects against light splashes).

EarFun Free Pro buds
Earvin Free Pro buds

At one point, we had the cheaper EarFun Free on this list. These days, I use the newer and more feature-rich EarFun Free Pro buds more for sports. They have active noise cancelation with a transparent mode, wireless charging, Bluetooth 5.2, and a lot of other things. They have a seven-hour battery life without the noise-canceling feature turned on, or about six hours with it turned on. They’re also IPX5 water-resistant, which means they can withstand a steady stream of water for a long time.

In general, they sound very good for the money. They have a clean, balanced sound and bass that has a little kick to it. They’re open-sounding and have a lot of space. Lightweight and easy to wear, they have little fins that help keep them in your ears, and they’re not very noticeable.

Don’t expect them to be able to block out noise as well as the AirPods Pro, but they do a good job of muffling. It’s important to point out that you can use either the left or right earbud on its own, and there is a low-latency mode for watching videos (and presumably gaming). There was some background noise, but it wasn’t bothersome and the people who called said they could hear my voice well. The touch controls worked well.

Water-resistantYes (IPX5 rating — can withstand a sustained spray of water).

It’s been a while since Jabra’s Elite 75t series came out, but they’re still one of the best true wireless earbuds on the market. They can now block out noise thanks to a new firmware update. Earlier firmware updates made voice calls work better.

As long as you get a good seal, the Elite 75t may sound better than the AirPods Pro. They have clearer sound and better bass definition, but only if you get a good seal. (The step-up 85t has a more powerful bass sound.)

A little bit tougher Elite Active 75t is also on sale for about $20 more. With the new Elite 85t’s arrival, we are seeing some sales on Elite 75t.

Water-resistantYes (IP55 rating — can withstand heavy sprays of water).

Galaxy Buds Plus

A lot of Samsung’s new Galaxy Buds Plus has been around for a while, and they usually cost around $100. Sometimes they’re even cheaper than that, though. Because they cost so little, they have very good sound for the money. They also have a long battery life (up to about 11 hours for music playback). They also have two drivers for better sound and extra microphones in each bud to help cut down on outside noise when you’re making a phone call.

In the newer, more expensive, Galaxy Buds Pro, noise-canceling and better sound are added. Some people like the fit of the Galaxy Buds Plus because it’s a little tighter. They have sports fins, which can help you find the right size.

Water-resistantYes (IPX4 rating — splash-proof).

Google’s Pixel Buds

Some things about Google’s Pixel Buds A-Series are a little weird. For one thing, they’re not exactly new, but they are a little bit different. They look and sound a lot like last year’s Pixel Buds 2, which were sold for $179 when they first came out, but now cost less. It turns out that instead of adding new features, like active noise canceling, they’ve actually lost a few of them. Why? They are only $100: The “A” stands for cost. The real story here is that the price has dropped, which makes these true wireless headphones a good deal for Android users, even though they’re still not cheap.

Water-resistantYes (IPX4 rating — splash-proof). Read our Pixel Buds A-Series review.

Jaybird Vista
Jaybird Vista

It’s one of our top picks for runners. The Jaybird Vista is true wireless sports earbuds that stay in your ears and are waterproof. Jaybird recently came out with the Vista 2 ($200), which has noise canceling and a mode that lets you see through it (their design and sound is similar to the originals). As soon as the Vista 2 comes out, the Vista is being marked down. It may be a better deal than the Vista 2.

Water-resistantYes (IPX7 — fully waterproof and sweat-proof).

Powerbeats Pro’s

Yes, the Beats Powerbeats Pro’s big charging case with a built-in battery is a big flaw. Apple’s AirPods are great because they have all the features that make them great. They also have richer sound and more battery life, and they come in a design that doesn’t fall out of your ear. Even if your ears aren’t quite right for these Bluetooth headphones, make sure you buy them somewhere that lets you return them if that’s the case.

They use Bluetooth 5.0 with support for AAC but not aptX.

Water-resistant: Yes (IPX4 rating — splash-proof).

The second-generation Apple AirPods
The second-generation Apple AirPods

The second-generation Apple AirPods make a few small but important changes to the original, like always-on voice recognition and a wireless charging case. They’re also good at making calls, both inside and outside.

It costs $159 for the basic Apple AirPod model and $199 for the version that comes with a wireless charging case. But you can get both of them for a lot less when you buy them online.

Water-resistant: No (lacks IPX certification).
