Biden supports Japan’s permanent membership of the Security Council

US President Joe Biden said Monday that he claims Japan becomes a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, Japanese radio and television reported.

Recently, requests for reforms have increased from the UN Security Council, which includes 15 members, of which five are permanent: the United States, China, Russia, France and Great Britain.

This took place during the meeting of Biden in Tokyo and the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, followed by a joint press conference.

US officials describe Japan and South Korea as the pillars of the United States in the face of China’s rise and partner in a West-led coalition to isolate Russia following the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

Biden seeks in Tokyo tomorrow Tuesday to strengthen the U.S. leadership role in the Asia-Pacific region by joining the leaders of Australia, India and Japan during a Quad alliance summit.

The White House said this is “a necessary opportunity to exchange views and further strengthen practical cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.”

So far, India, a member of the Quadruple Alliance, has angered the United States by refusing to publicly condemn Moscow for the conflict with Ukraine and by refusing to curtail its trade with Russia. Biden will hold a private meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.

At each stage of Biden’s visit, there is concern that an unpredictable North Korea may launch a new missile or conduct a test nuclear. Nothing like this happened during Biden’s visit to Seoul.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said the threat remained and that Pyongyang still has a chance to return to negotiations. “If North Korea moves, we will be ready to respond,” he told reporters. If North Korea does not act, it has the opportunity, as we said before, to return to the negotiating table “.

US officials say Pyongyang has so far refused to respond to calls for dialogue and has even ignored offers of assistance to combat the sudden COVID-19 epidemic on its soil.
