Biden welcomes the Gaza ceasefire, thanks Sisi

On Monday, US President Joe Biden thanked Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for centralizing a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the “Jihad” movement in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement, Biden said that for the past 72 hours, the United States has been working with regional officials to encourage a speedy resolution of the conflict.

Biden welcomed the ceasefire decision between the two sides, saying, “I welcome the announcement tonight of a ceasefire between Israel and militants in Gaza after three days of hostility.”

Biden thanked Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and senior Egyptian officials who played a central role “in helping to end these hostilities”.

Biden stressed his support for Israel’s security, including its right to defend itself against attacks.

Biden stressed that reports of civilian casualties in Gaza are a tragedy, both because of Israeli attacks on the sites of the “Jihad” movement and because of dozens of “Jihad” missiles that are said to have fallen inside Gaza.

He added that his administration supports a full and timely investigation into all these reports and calls on all parties to fully implement the ceasefire and ensure the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza when the fighting subsides.
