Blake Wheeler’s prime aide in a Patrik Laine win Saturday’s 6-0 win over the Minnesota Wild marked a major milestone for him and the Winnipeg Jets. Wheeler became the all-time leader of the Jets / Atlanta Thrashers.
Ilya Kovalchuk previously held the 615-point record with the team during her eight-year stint with the Thrashers. Going into the weekend game, Wheeler was a shy of Kovalchuk’s record-breaking tie, who was out of the way early as he scored his 10th goal of the season, which had been awarded late in the first period.

In the second period, the 33-year-old pulled another point with primary help to Laine’s power goal to outrun Kovalchuk completely.
Wheeler earned 616 points in 674 total games with the Jets / Thrashers, while conceding seven or more 60-point seasons with the team, including 91-point campaigns in 2017-18 and 2018-19.
Wheeler moved to Winnipeg from the Boston Bruins in 2011 in exchange for Boris Valabik and Rich Peverley. He now has a total of 726 points in 896 total career games.
