Blizzard Addresses Menu Design Issue in Diablo 4’s Season Journey Menu

Blizzard to Adjust Diablo 4 Menu Design Following Activation Issues

Blizzard has acknowledged player concerns regarding the menu design in Diablo 4, which has resulted in accidental activation of the Premium Battle Pass. To address this issue, the company is currently considering changes to the menu layout.

Season Menu and Activate Premium Option

Within the game’s Season menu, players can monitor their progress by checking the Season Journey. This menu also includes an option called Activate Premium, where players with a Premium Battle Pass can activate it, upgrading their standard Battle Pass.

Premium Battle Pass with Deluxe and Ultimate Editions

Typically, players would have to go through a storefront process to purchase a Premium Battle Pass. However, the Deluxe and Ultimate Editions of Diablo 4 already include a Premium Battle Pass. Some players may prefer to save their pass for a future season, depending on their preference for cosmetics in each season’s Battle Pass.

The Activation Issue

The problem arises when players accidentally choose the Activate Premium option without intending to, instantly activating their Premium Battle Pass. There is currently no confirmation prompt to allow players to cancel the activation.

Twitter User Raises Concerns

Twitter user Rurikhan criticized Blizzard for what he called “straight-up malicious design” due to the default highlighting of the ‘Activate Premium’ option in the Season tab. Rurikhan stated that he unintentionally activated his Battle Pass, as he had planned to save it for a future season.

Blizzard’s Response

Diablo 4’s global community development director, Adam Fletcher, has addressed Rurikhan’s concerns on Twitter, mentioning that the team is currently investigating the issue. He also stated that they are working on a temporary fix to prevent the cursor from automatically defaulting to the Activate Premium option and instead default it to Season Journey.

Additional Challenges for Blizzard

This activation issue adds to recent difficulties faced by Blizzard. The company previously had to address player backlash regarding its version 1.1.0 patch, which included various nerfs.

Successful Launch

Despite these challenges, Diablo 4 has seen a successful launch. Activision Blizzard reported that over 10 million players “experienced” Diablo 4 during its launch month. The game, released on June 5 for PC and consoles, has become the fastest-selling title from the World of Warcraft studio.
