Britain modifies strategic nuclear submarine and returns it to service

Military website Jane’s reports that the UK has completed the modernization and development of a strategic nuclear submarine and has returned it to service with its fleet.

“The strategic nuclear submarine Vanguard returned to service with the Royal Navy after a comprehensive overhaul and equipment upgrade. The submarine was handed over to the army during an official ceremony at the Devonport base in Plymouth,” the website said. said.

The site states that “the submarine was sent to one of the docks of Babcock International in 2015 for repair and modernization work, and it was supposed to be equipped within 3 years, but for a number of reasons this process dragged on much longer.”

Vanguard is one of 4 strategic nuclear submarines of the same class that replaced the Resolution class submarines in the British Navy in the 1990s.

This submarine is armed with 16 Trident ballistic missiles and 533 mm anti-ship and anti-submarine torpedoes.
