Britain plans to raise minimum wage by 6.6%

LONDON (Reuters) – The UK government will this week announce an increase in the country’s minimum wage for people aged 23 and over to £ 9.50 ($ 13.06) an hour from £ 8.91, a 6.6% increase, the Treasury said Monday.

The ministry added that the announcement will come in the government’s annual budget statement that Finance Minister Rishi Sunak will present to Parliament on Wednesday.

The minimum wage increase should come in in force in April 2022.

The ministry said the minimum wage is set to increase even for those under 23.
