Bungie And Sony Both Are Collaborating To Work On “Unannounced Projects”

Bungie is placing only some of its eggs in one basket while it works on Destiny 2 support and upcoming features. Bungie’s creative director Tom Farnsworth wrote on Twitter that the company is collaborating with Sony on “several unknown projects.”

Farnsworth said during a Twitter conversation regarding his 11-year tenure at Bungie that the firm had “totally transformed” the way it creates video games. He claims Bungie has transitioned from “strictly packaged products to live service games.”

Aside from the tease by Farnsworth, no other clues were given on what those Bungie projects could be.

One of them is likely the new IP Bungie had planned to launch by 2025. During an early 2022 earnings call, it was also mentioned that Sony was working with Bungie on ten live service games. According to that call, all those games were slated for release by March 2026.

The mobile Destiny game is another project that Bungie is working on, so it’s unlikely that it was included in Farnsworth’s teasing. Bungie and Chinese company NetEase are working together to produce that game. It is anticipated that the game will continue to be a first-person shooter and employ the same Tiger engine as Destiny 2.

Sony bought Bungie in June 2022 for $3.6 billion. The action responded to Microsoft’s announcement that it would buy Activision Blizzard. This transaction is still subject to intense scrutiny.
