Judge Sets Limits on Trump’s Discussion of Classified Information
A federal judge has issued an order regarding how former President Donald Trump can discuss classified information with his defense lawyers in the criminal case where he is charged with retaining classified documents after leaving the White House.
The order, issued by Judge Aileen Cannon in the U.S. District Court for southern Florida, supports limitations requested by prosecutors from the office of special counsel Jack Smith, despite Trump’s objections.
While the order does not explicitly address all of Trump’s requests, it does not rule out the possibility that certain concessions regarding the discussion of classified information may be granted in the future.
One unresolved request from Trump is the establishment of a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida. This facility would allow him to discuss classified information with his lawyers in a secure environment.
