Sam Altman Receives Indonesia’s First “Golden Visa” for AI Contribution
Indonesia Recognizes Sam Altman’s Contributions
Indonesia has awarded OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman its first “Golden Visa” — a week after the scheme was launched to attract foreign investment to Southeast Asia’s largest economy.
In a statement, Silmy Karim, Indonesia’s director general of immigration, explained that the “Golden Visa” is given to figures with an international reputation who can provide benefits for Indonesia.
Karim expressed the hope that Altman, as a recipient of the “Golden Visa,” will contribute to the development and use of AI in Indonesia.
Altman’s “Golden Visa” is valid for 10 years and comes with various benefits, such as priority screening at airports throughout Indonesia, longer stay periods, and easier entry and exit procedures.
Altman’s Achievements and Role in AI
Altman is the co-founder of OpenAI, known for creating the AI chatbot ChatGPT, along with Elon Musk.
During a recent tour in Asia, Altman visited major cities such as Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul, and Singapore, including Indonesia.
ChatGPT quickly gained popularity for its humanlike responses, amassing 100 million users within two months of its launch.
Altman, along with other tech leaders, recently emphasized the risks associated with AI, comparing them to the threat of nuclear war. They called for global efforts to mitigate these risks.
