In a recent post on Meta’s text-based app, Threads, Zuckerberg wrote, “I think we can all agree Elon isn’t serious and it’s time to move on.” He expressed his frustration with Musk, stating that despite his willingness to fight, Musk kept coming up with excuses.

Both social media executives had been teasing a mixed martial arts fight since June, referring to it as a “cage match.” This term is commonly used to describe wrestling in a confined space from which the combatants strive to escape.

Zuckerberg revealed, “I offered a real date. Dana White offered to organize a legitimate charity competition.” White, the president of Ultimate Fighting Championship, had reportedly been involved in arranging the fight. However, Musk failed to confirm a date, claimed he needed surgery, and then proposed a practice bout in Zuckerberg’s backyard instead.

Expressing his disappointment, Zuckerberg concluded, “If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, it’s time to move on. I’ll focus on competing with individuals who take the sport seriously.”

Musk has not responded to Zuckerberg’s latest remarks publicly, and queries to X, formerly known as Twitter, remain unanswered. However, Musk did share a screenshot of a text conversation with Zuckerberg, seemingly proposing a practice bout set to take place in Zuckerberg’s Palo Alto backyard.

The rivalry between Zuckerberg and Musk intensified when Zuckerberg launched Threads, a competing app to X. Musk’s attorney subsequently accused Meta of misappropriating X’s trade secrets and hiring ex-Twitter employees for Threads.

Musk responded sarcastically to the launch of Threads, tweeting, “I’m sure Earth can’t wait to be exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options.” In response to a user’s comment on X, Musk humorously suggested a cage match, stating, “I’m up for a cage match if he is lol.”

Meta’s communications director, Andy Stone, defended the engineering team against claims of hiring ex-Twitter employees, stating on Threads, “No one on the Threads engineering team is a former Twitter employee — that’s just not a thing.”
