Canada monitors 15 confirmed cases of monkeypox and expects more

The Canadian province of Quebec has had 15 confirmed cases of monkeypox as of Monday, with more cases expected, the Canadian province of Quebec said.

Almost 20 countries in which monkeypox is not endemic have reported recent outbreaks of the viral disease, with over 230 confirmed or suspected cases, mainly in Europe.

Canadian Federal Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos said other samples from other parts of the country were sent to a laboratory in Winnipeg for test.

And he added in a note: “We expect to confirm more cases in the coming days.”

Canada confirmed its first two cases of monkeypox last week after Quebec authorities said they were looking into 17 suspected cases.
