Catherine Zeta-Jones sparks frenzy with BAFTAs appearance hours after announcing sad news


Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, 51, joined the BAFTAs ceremony from her home this evening sporting a plunging black top. Adding to her look, she wore her brown hair down and straight and opted for glamorous make-up. After being introduced to viewers by host Richard Ayoade, she said of the category: “Each of these well deserved nominations for Best Single Drama demonstrate the power of honest writing and compelling acting.

“Undertaking true stories with ambitious and challenging storylines, they leave their mark on each and every viewer.

“Let’s take a look at the nominations.”

The Single Drama nominations included; Anthony, BBW (On The Edge), Sitting in Limbo and The Windermere Children.

Following a VT, she announced the winner as Sitting in Limbo.

Despite only being a part of the ceremony for a short time, the mother-of-two sparked a frenzy on Twitter.

One wrote: “Blimey, is that Catherine Zeta Jones?! #BAFTAS.”

A second added: “Good grief unrecognisable #VirginMediaBAFTAs.”

A third commented: “@BAFTA Surely that wasn’t Catherine Zeta Jones!!!!????”

A fifth added: “Turns out I’m still a little bit in love with Catherine Zeta-Jones.”

Others went on to share snaps of the actress from her younger years.

The Swansea-born star is best known for her theatre work, particularly in Chicago, as well as her many film roles.

Catherine lives in Westchester County, New York with her husband Michael Douglas and their children Dylan and Carys.

Ahead of the BAFTAs 2021 being aired, the actress took to her Instagram page to share some sad news.

In view of her 3.7 million, she told fans her friend Mansour Ojjeh, a major shareholder in McLaren, had died.

Alongside snaps with the businessman, she wrote: “Thank you birthday brother for the joy you gave me in calling you a friend.

“You were an exceptional human being and your love, light and laughter will live with us forever and ever and ever and ever…….. sleep tight my love.”

The billionaire businessman bought into McLaren in 1984 and was a driving force in their huge success.

Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton also commented: “I carry a heavy heart into the race after the loss of a close friend, Mansour Ojjeh.

“He had the biggest heart and always carried the biggest smile.

“I am so grateful to have known such a man. This man loved unconditionally. Rest in peace brother, love you always.”
