Chelsea manager Tuchel is looking forward to his first game against Lampard

LONDON: Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said he was looking forward to his first game against Everton counterpart Frank Lampard, adding that the former midfielder would always be a Stamford Bridge legend despite his tough time as a club Londoner. Tuchel took over Chelsea in January last year, succeeding Lampard, and led the team to the FA Cup final and Champions League victory within months of taking office. “He (Frank) sent me a very kind and respectful message after I took command of Chelsea and it means a lot,” Tuchel told reporters ahead of Sunday’s game at Goodison Park. I was a huge fan of him as a player and he will remain a legend in ours club and this is taken for granted. It is a very exciting week for me, I would love to meet him. We need points and they too desperately need points ”. Chelsea are third in championship, while Everton, 18th, is struggling with relegation, two points behind safety zones with six games to go. Lampard, who replaced Rafael Benitez in January, said Chelsea were an important part of his career, but that would not change the nature of the work he was doing. “My only goal is to prepare my team to try and win the game,” Lampard added on Friday. Center-back Yerry Mina and striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be among Lampard’s options against Chelsea, but defender Ben Godfrey has been sidelined with a serious injury and could miss the rest of the season. Asked if he would stay at Everton in relegation case, Lampard added: “I don’t want to answer this question, but what I will say is that I have loved every minute spent in this club. I got a standing ovation from the fans and will do everything I can to report this club in the place it deserves “. (Reuters)
