The Chilean Football Association announced Thursday that it has reached an agreement with the German sports group “Adidas” to supply sportswear to the national team, against the backdrop of the definitive break in its relationship with sports equipment giant “Nike” after several months of conflict.
Adidas has contracted with the Chilean national team for the next five years, in particular until December 2026, and will be responsible for the apparel of the men’s and women’s national teams, as well as futsal and beach soccer, according to a statement.
The new deal ends a tense relationship between Roja and Nike that ended after the local federation filed a lawsuit against the brand in March.
The federation accuses the US equipment manufacturer of failing to pay nearly $ 6 million in annual revenue for the 2019-2020 period agreed in the contract signed in 2015 for the national team’s apparel.
To protest against Nike’s behavior, the federation has decided to hide the brand logo on the jerseys of the team that participated in the last edition of the Copa America in Brazil.
Nike responded with a letter asking for the termination of the contract, claiming that the Chilean federation did not respect the ten matches that the national team should have played each season.
