China: we will punish Pelosi for his visit to Taiwan

China’s foreign ministry announced Friday that it will impose sanctions on US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi after her visit to Taiwan, which angered Beijing.

The ministry said Pelosi “seriously interfered in China’s internal affairs and severely undermined China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity” through the visit, explaining that China “will impose sanctions on Pelosi and his close relatives”, without provide further details, according to the AFP.

Calling the Chinese ambassador

Additionally, the Washington Post reported Friday that the White House summoned Chinese Ambassador Qin Gang on Thursday to condemn the escalation of measures against Taiwan and stress that the United States does not want a crisis in the region.

“After China’s actions, we summoned Ambassador Qin Gang to the White House to discuss the provocative (Chinese) actions,” White House spokesman John Kirby told the newspaper.
