Chris Evans forced out of family home by noise disturbance 'I’ve cleared it with my wife'

Chris Evans, 55, has admitted that from now his second day of the week will be known as “camping Tuesdays”, after he had his sleep disturbed by his local church last week. The Virgin Radio host presents his early morning show weekdays at 6am and goes to bed at 7.30pm every night to ensure he wakes feeling refreshed.

However last week he was woken up by the sound of bell chimes coming from a nearby church, as they practised bell ringing at 8.45pm onwards.

Clearly agitated over the disturbance, Chris told radio listeners how he had conceived an elaborate plan to avoid future sleep loss.

He explained: “Tuesdays will be camping Tuesdays for me for the foreseeable future.

“Why? Well I refer the honourable ladies and gentlemen of the jury back to this clip…”

Chris then played a clip to listeners that he had recorded at home of the loud ringing outside his window, which could be heard as he described the events leading up to the interruption of his slumber.

He started: “So hi guys, last night a couple of the neighbours were having a Monday night barbecue. Which smelt amazing. I could hear the clinking of glasses and the light glee of community conversation, and togetherness.

“I was happy for them, but a little sad for myself. Having to go to bed at silly o’clock and get up at silly o’clock. Anyway, that’s not happening tonight, but this is instead (bells continued to ring outside his window).

“It is quarter to nine and its bell ringing at the church,” he finished.

After hearing the clip, a listener had dialled in to question whether Chris actually does live in the bell tower of the church.

Chris responded: “I’m about three or four hundred yards away, but the thing is the river is in-between which acts as a natural amplifier.

“Especially at night when sound travels further. It also travels when there is snow on the ground.

“But none of that matters because the bells are so flipping loud, it doesn’t have to be night or snowy.”

Taking a stand against the noise pollution, Chris shared that he had spoken to a friend – who owned a patch of land nearby – over the possibility of camping out.

“So from now on there’s a patch of land down the road, that a friend of mine owns and I’m going to camp every Tuesday,” he continued.

Although many at home listening would presume the radio host was joking, he admitted mulling the idea over in a serious capacity.

He had even informed his wife Natasha Shishmanian and his family on the matter.

Chris added: “I’ve cleared it with my wife and the family. They tuck me in bed at quarter past seven anyway.

“They shut my door at half-past seven and that’s me done.

“Unless there’s some kind of domestic issue. You can even close the door and what I’ll do is I will sneak out.

“Not so nobody knows, just so we have done the whole ritual and they can just imagine me in the bedroom.

“My wife said, ‘Oh don’t do that’. I said, ‘But it doesn’t make any difference, because you don’t see me after half seven’.

“She said, ‘Oh but it’s just that we know you are there’.”
