Claressa Shields is a bad woman.
The second woman to ever be crowned a undisputed world champion gets the nod for the best female boxer of the Sporting News decade – and with less than 10 pro fights in her book.
“I just want to fight the best, be the best and be the best I have ever done and even when I am boxing being considered one of the top 10 best boxers in the world,” Shields told SN in October. “That’s my overall goal.
“In the end, I think I’m going to look at this list,” Shields said, “and it’s like, ‘This list of achievements is crazy.'”

Well, if this list ended today, it’s already surreal to think about what the 24-year-old has done in less than a decade, but he still has enough work to feel.
Shields (9-0) competes for GWOAT’s self-produced “Greatest Woman of All Time” before even becoming a pro.
And the numbers just add to her case.
With the numbers
– Before turning pro, Shields splashes in the back-to-back gold medal at the Olympic Games (2012 and 2016).
– In just over three years of professional experience, Shields is already a two-time world champion (super middleweight and middleweight) and has an undisputed middleweight crown tied to her name as a result of the victories of Nikki Adler, Hanna Gabriel, Hannah Rankin and Christina Hammer.
– How’s that for more story? If Shields defeats Ivana Habazin on January 10 for the vacant WBC and WBO lower middleweight titles, she will become the fastest boxer – male or female – to become a three-division world champion, marking only her 10th pro fight. Vasiliy Lomachenko made it to 12 pro fights.
Next decade belongs to: Claressa Shields
At 24, there’s no reason to think Claressa Shields can’t be the best in the next decade either. In just nine professional fights from 2016 to 2019, the Flint, Mich., Native has done more than enough to reign as the top female sports journalist of the decade. Now, imagine what he could do with a more complete project, starting in January with his fight against Habazin.
