Coach K expects Duke to be without Cassius Stanley for at least a month

Duke coach Mike Krisievski hopes former New Year’s guard Cassius Stanley has been injured.

Stanley had to be helped off the field at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Friday after injuring his left foot in the second half against Winthrop. It landed hard on the floor after missing a layup.

Krzyzewski said after the game that Stanley would be examined further on Saturday.

Coach K at Cassius Stanley:

“Something is going on with his hamstring, he’s muscular, he’s going to have an MRI tomorrow, we don’t think it’s a knee injury, so it’s good, he’ll be out for a while, hopefully right after Christmas.

A return shortly after Christmas would have made Stanley available for the majority of the Blue Devils ACC’s top program. Duke (7-1) has December 6 conference games against Virginia Tech and December 31 vs. Boston College.

The 6-6 Stanley scored a season-low four points in 17 minutes before leaving Friday. He started each of Duke’s eight games, averaging 12.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists.
