Colin Jackson, 54, has denied that he decided against being part of a same-sex pairing on Dancing On Ice this year, as he was never offered the opportunity by ITV bosses. It comes after it was claimed that the former Olympic athlete, who came out as gay in 2017, opted not to dance with a male professional skater on the programme because he “gets on better with women”.
Colin went on to reach the final of the series with his skating partner Klabera Komini, narrowly missing out on the trophy to radio presenter Sonny Jay.
Speaking out on the reports in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Colin divulged: “Do you know what was interesting?
“I read about this, and me and Klabera were laughing about this, we were never offered that!
“So it was never on the cards, so it wasn’t something like ITV had said, ‘Who do you want to dance with, do you want same-sex, or whatever?’

“No, it was never offered, so it was not part of this series.
“We always do giggle about that like, ‘No, we were never offered that!’”
Despite the incorrect reports, Colin also gushed over his partnership with Klabera, which has blossomed into a great friendship as they got on so well during the competition.
He revealed: “I mean, we got on, it was one of the funniest things ever when they introduce you to your dance partner, you know, you don’t see who it is.

“And then all of a sudden, your dance partner appears from somewhere and I saw this girl do this amazing thing called a hydroglide and I watched her and I was like, ‘That is ridiculous’!”
Reflecting on their first meeting on the ice, Colin continued: “You could see that she was kind of sussing me out, and I was kind of sussing her out, and getting the feel of each other.”
The former Strictly Come Dancing finalist revealed Klabera immediately put him at ease by making him laugh.
He added: “I went, ‘This is going to be a partnership in heaven and we’re going to get on like a house of fire,’ and from there on we absolutely did, it was brilliant.”
Colin also shared his gratitude about his positive relationship with Klabera, as he enjoyed learning from her as well as spending time with her in training.

He explained: “This is a very highly pressurised and tense environment because you’re trying to learn, and they’re trying to teach you.
“And if they don’t have genuine empathy with you, tempers can be quite short quite quickly.
“So it is really important that you have that honest relationship with people, that you truly do get on, it makes a massive difference.”
Dancing On Ice was the first reality show to feature a same-sex partnership last year, when H from Steps teamed up with Matt Evers.
Strictly Come Dancing then followed the ITV show with boxer Nicola Adams and Katya Jones’ pairing.

Colin opened up about his sexuality for the first time in September 2017 during an appearance on a Swedish TV show.
During the interview, the retired athlete said he had to come out to his mum and dad in 2006 after a story emerged in the press.
He said: “I was waiting for them in the kitchen. They walked in and they sat down. My mother could see my face and I was quite distraught. It didn’t phase them at all.
“My mum went: ‘First of all, is the story true?’ And I said it’s true, so it’s not like I can deny it. And then she went: ‘Well, why are people so disgraceful?’ I just realised, I’ve got the best parents.”
