Commissioner for Energy: the European Union is in contact with partners to increase energy supplies

The Commissioner for Energy of the European Union Kadri Simpson, after a meeting with the European energy ministers in France last Saturday declared that the European Union is in negotiations with partners on the possibility of increasing gas supplies to the block.

The gas supply crisis in Europe, which is widely believed to be caused by the scarcity of gas flows from Russia, has caused energy prices to rise. Moscow denies the manipulation of supplies.

Simpson said he will attend conferences in February in Azerbaijan and Washington to discuss ways to increase gas shipments in Europe.

“EU gas storage levels are much lower than normal in this time of year, “he told reporters.

He said the meeting of ministers in the French city of Amiens discussed the uncertainty in the markets caused by the Ukrainian crisis and the significant decline in flows from Russia in recent months.

Simson highlighted the European Commission’s December proposal to review gas supply regulations to improve coordination between member states on gas storage.
