The Department of Health in Maryland was hit with a cyber attack shortly after the state announced more cases of the variant of the Omicron coronavirus, in what the governor called a “situation in evolution”.

Numerous other health-related websites have also been taken down after the weekend attack, including a site for people in Maryland to apply to Medicaid and another on nursing-home safety.

Health officials have posted on social media urge the state to obtain its services and resources back up and running.

The state has not updated its Covid numbers because of what they referred to on monday like “server outage”.
