Dan Walker REJECTS Piers Morgan as co-host on BBC Breakfast in savage blow

Dan Walker, 44, seemed to have had enough of his former TV nemesis Piers Morgan wading in on discussions that don’t really concern him, after he savagely shut down his playful jibe about his co-star Louise Minchin leaving BBC Breakfast. Piers told Dan to “stop blubbing” over the emotional news that the BBC host is quitting and suggested he would be replacing her, something Dan was less than happy to hear.

Louise announced her departure on the show on Tuesday morning, after two decades as host.

Taking to Twitter following the news that was announced live on-air, Dan paid tribute to his long-standing colleague and shared a selection of pictures of the pair at work.

But it wasn’t long before Piers got involved, teasing that he would be joining him on the red sofa next week.

“Stop blubbing Dan – I start Monday,” he retorted.

“BBC wanted the guy who beat you in the ratings, and the first same-sex male breakfast presenting team to appease the wokies.”

But the proposition was a definite no from Dan, who responded with a savage reply.

“No thanks… wouldn’t want you storming off if Carol [Kirkwood – BBC weather presenter] asked you something awkward. #TearsForPiers,” he laughed back, referring to when he walked out during a heated discussion with Alex Beresford on what turned out to be his final show on Good Morning Britain back in March.

And while Piers seems to be in high demand for Andrew Neil’s GB News and Rupert Murdoch’s upcoming “opinionated” News UK TV and Fox News, it would appear BBC Breakfast is a no go for the outspoken host.

Dan referred to Louise’s departure as a “break-up”, as he wished his colleague well.

“What am I going to do without Louise?” he penned on social media.

“Thank you for all the lovely messages after an emotional morning on #BBCBreakfast – I’m sure Louise will get to read them all later.

“My life will be poorer without her on the sofa. She’s the best.”

He continued to gush over his co-star in a separate tweet: “As with everything she does… Louise announces her departure from the show with dignity and class.

“We will all miss her enormously at #BBCBreakfast.

“She is not only wonderful at her job… she is a great friend. Enjoy your lie-ins @louiseminchin.”

The news that Louise is leaving not only hit Dan hard, but also left fans totally stunned.

She said on the show: “I have decided it is time I stopped setting my alarm for 0340 in the morning and I’m going to be leaving the programme.”

Louise added that she would leave “some time after the summer” and would take “lots of happy memories” from her time there.

“We’ve had fun times. We’ve had some incredible guests. I love hearing people’s stories, I love being able to tell their stories,” she continued.

When asked what she would be doing next, she replied: “Anybody who watches will be very well aware my passion is endurance sport, and I will absolutely continue to do that.

“I’ve got lots of really exciting adventures planned. I’m trying to write a book about that as well.

“And I’ll continue with my podcast, which is all about the mental and physical benefits of sport and exercise. And I’ll be having lots of lie-ins. That’s what I’m most excited about right now.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
