Dana White and Kamaru Usman disagree on next challenger for welterweight title

LAS VEGAS – Kamaru Usman’s big right hand ended his rivalry with Colby Covington and made his first successful defense of the welterweight title at UFC 245. But he may not have enough to enjoy the win because there is already a line that formed around blocks for a crack in the champion.

If he stays at Usman, the next man may not be who you think he is.

If left to UFC President Dana White, Usman’s next challenger is exactly who you think he will be.

According to White, the man who won the fantastic “BMF” title against Nate Diaz at UFC 244 may have already won the title opportunity in a fight that UFC president believes will be huge for both fighters and for the UFC.

“It’s huge,” White said before praising Usman’s performance on Saturday night. “Yeah, the Masvidal vs. Usman fight is a big deal. (Nate) Diaz fought for the ‘BMF’ band and now to fight for the real title against the man who is tough as a nail, it’s fun.”

While Usman-Masvidal may be the biggest money fight that can be made for the welterweight title, Usman believes another man has won this opportunity.

“There are a lot of tough guys in the division – well, a lot of tough guys,” Usman said at the UFC 245 post-fight press conference. “I mean, let’s be honest: If you’re talking about someone who’s worthy, Leon Edwards has not lost since he fought me. He’s finished kids and found myself in a position I found myself just over a year ago, everybody knew that I was one of the toughest people in the department and they didn’t want to take that gamble and risk me. “

Currently, Masvidal and Edwards are ranked # 3 and # 4, respectively. While Masvidal is coming off a huge win against Diaz, Edwards has won eight games in a row with wins over Donald Cerrone, Rafael dos Anjos and Gunnar Nelson.

Masvidal and Edwards also participated in a crash earlier this year, when they both participated in a backstage disaster at UFC Fight Night 147 that left Edwards with Masvidal’s facial toss.

You can’t go wrong with both options and Usman will decide to take some time, a title eliminator between the parties involved will definitely be welcomed by the fans.

However, Usman will sit and wait to see what number is called next and made it clear that he will not reject any challenger coming up for his title.

“Right now, I’m sitting up and looking at all these guys and they are very tight-knit,” Usman said of his potential rivals at £ 170. “They just have to go out and wait for Dana to dress and the organization is next for me. and I’ll be happy. I’ll never run the race, and especially now. I’m the champion. If they said it was the next guy, then hey, that’s the next guy. “
