Darragh Ennis Responds to Criticism Over Strike Support Post

Darragh Ennis of The Chase caused a stir when he announced that he was participating in strike action against employers over pay and pensions, as well as intense workloads. The 43-year-old entomologist, neuroscientist and TV quiz show star shared a photo of himself on Twitter with placards reading “On strike to win back my pension”. Although the University and College Union (UCU) had announced 18 days of strikes over February and March, the decision met with a mixed reaction from his followers.

Ennis quickly returned to Twitter to urge everyone to be civil with each other, regardless of their opinion on the strikes. He reminded them that everyone was entitled to their own political stance and should not be abused for it. Despite some of the criticism he received, there were also many people who supported his right to strike and praised him for taking a stand.

Ennis concluded his post with a message of “Support the strikers!”, making it clear where his loyalties lie. In addition to this, he also used the opportunity to answer some questions from his followers, including whether he had ever lost on The Chase, to which he candidly admitted “I’ve lost spectacularly on occasion!”. Ultimately, the post sparked a lively debate about the merits of strike action and the importance of civil discourse.
