Mona Hurry, a 102-year-old former code-breaker in the Women’s Royal Naval Service during the Second World War, was surprised by her hero, David Beckham, with a personal video message. Her care home in Peterborough had organised a special David Beckham appreciation day, complete with Beckham-themed cupcakes and masks, and Mona was delighted to receive a thank you from her idol. In the video, Beckham said: “Hey Mona, I just wanted to send you a message because everybody at Castor Lodge, all of the staff and of course your daughters, have said what an incredible lady you are. I also want to say a personal thank you because I know you’ve followed my career and I know you’re a huge football fan. I’m sending lots of love for being an incredible person.” Laura Mills, a manager at the care home, praised both Mona and Beckham for their kindness, and Mona spoke highly of the Man U and England legend, saying: “He doesn’t have airs and graces.” Mona’s daughter Maureen was also grateful for the care home’s efforts, saying: “It is years since I have seen my mother with such a smile on her face. Who knew a cut-out David Beckham was all it needed?! Thank you for doing this for her.”
