Davina McCall, 53, has opened up about the aftermath of her split from ex-husband Matthew Robertson, who used to host Pet Rescue. The pair began working together in 2000, just as Davina’s career with Big Brother began, and they married in June the same year at a lavish ceremony at Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire.
We’d still been living in our house together, which was awkward
But in 2017 they decided to go their separate ways, however they were still living together.
In a new interview, Davina admitted it was an “awkward” situation as she struggled through what she describes as “a real transitional phase” of her life.
“We’d still been living in our house together, which was awkward,” she said.
“I hadn’t moved on and I was in this weird no-man’s land.”

“Since then, I’ve really tried to simplify my life and scale it down, which has been a very positive thing.”
Back in 2017, Davina posted on Instagram some cryptic messages before confirming her split with Matthew, admitting she had “made many mistakes” in her life but their children will always be their “number one priority”.

“Two years on, we have both grown as people and we can now co-parent happily and acknowledge that it was the right thing for us to go through even though it involved absolute emotional turmoil.”
Back to present day, Davina continued to tell Good Housekeeping her advice about going through a divorce.
“My advice to friends of anyone going through it is: even if someone looks fine, support them.
“No one gets divorced without really thinking about it – this idea that people rush into it, that just doesn’t happen.”
She added: “It’s an enormous deal and it really is hard, so be there.”
