Dead and wounded in a terrorist attack in “Taksim Istanbul”

Yesterday the Kingdom condemned with the utmost firmness the terrorist attack that hit thearea of Taksim, in the center of Istanbul, which resulted in the death and injury of numerous civilians.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Saudi Arabia stands alongside Turkey against this cowardly act, offering sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and to the government and Turkish people, with sincere wishes for a speedy recovery for the wounded.

A violent explosion occurred on Sunday in Istiklal Street, a branch off from Taksim Square in the Beyoglu district on the European side of Istanbul, which has resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries.

About two hours later, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan revealed that the “heinous” attack on Istiklal Street had killed 6 people and injured 53, considering the Istanbul blast a “despicable attack”, noting that “a woman could be involved “, without adding any details.

TV channels broadcast scenes in direct of the wounded transported to hospitals by ambulance teams that have moved into the area.

Security forces were also heavily deployed in the vicinity of theareawhich witnessed a large crowd, as the blast occurred at 4pm Istanbul time at the height of movement on the street, which is teeming with restaurants, foreign tourists and Turkish citizens, especially on weekends.

The official Anadolu news agency said the cause of the explosion is still unclear.

For his part, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, official spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, condemned the terrorist attack in the strongest terms, expressing Egypt’s sincere condolences to the families of the victims, the cordial Turkish people and the Republic of Turkey, wishing a speedy recovery for the wounded.

The General Secretariat of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation also expressed its strong condolence and denunciation of the terrorist attack. The Secretary General of the Organization, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and to the people of the Republic of Turkey, wishing a speedy recovery for the wounded.

The Secretary General expressed the solidarity of the organization to the Republic of Turkey, underlining the firm position of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation against Terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
