The government of Pakistan’s Punjab province declared an environmental emergency in the province today, after the provincial capital Lahore was ranked as the most polluted city in the world due to high toxic levels of thick smog.
The state of environmental emergency in the region, according to the government statement, provides for the closure of public schools and private on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to prevent children from being exposed to dangerous levels of pollution.
