International experts have put in doubt the reports received on the discovery of a new mutant of the Corona virus, which bears common characteristics of “Delta” and “Omicron” called “Deltakron”, and suggested that it was the result of a “laboratory error”, while the Organization World Health Organization spoke of what was reported about a virus that combines flu and corona.
There have been conflicting opinions from specialist customers in thanks to the discovery of a new mutant of the Corona virus, with characteristics that combine the ferocious and lethal “Delta” mutant and the more rapidly spreading “Omicron” mutant, called “Deltachron”.
While specialists have argued that this perception was behind a laboratory error or contamination, some have argued that this perception is incorrect.
A Cypriot scientist defended his claim of the existence of a new strain of Covid-19 that combines the characteristics of the Delta and Omicron variables, denying the occurrence of laboratory contamination, as told to the “Bloomberg” agency and seen by ” Al Arabiya Net “, where Leondos Kostrikis said, in a statement sent on Sunday via e-mail. On Sunday, he said the cases he identified “indicate the evolution of a strain with several mutations.”
Kostrikis spoke of finding 25 cases infected with the new mutation and one of them from Israel was filed in the global database.
He also confirmed that the infections are in increase among hospitalized Omicron patients in hospital, compared to those infected and those remaining in home isolation.
deltachron is not real
Some experts have put in Kostrikis’s findings doubt, with a World Health Organization official tweeting Sunday that the word “deltacron,” which was popular on the social media over the weekend, it was “not real” and probably due to a sequence introduced by an unauthorized biological process, referring to laboratory contamination.
Many of relationships of Omicron sequences carrying Delta-like mutations (eg P681R or L452R). Although a subset of these could end up being real, most likely the vast majority will transform out be contamination or co-infection. No clear signals of anything real or bad success (again).

In this case, there is likely to be “contamination.” in laboratory of omicron fragments in the delta sample, “Dr. Krutika Kupalli, WHO expert on Covid, said on Twitter.
In another tweet, he remarked sarcastically: “We don’t combine the names of infectious diseases and leave it to famous couples.”
Other scientists agreed that the findings could be the result of a lab error, with virologist Dr Tom Peacock of Imperial College London also tweeting that Cypriot deltacron “sequences” reported by several prominent media they appeared to be visibly contaminated.
In another tweet, he noted that “some of us looked at the sequences and came to the same conclusion that it doesn’t look like a true recombinant,” referring to a possible rearrangement of the genetic material.
For his part, Cypriot health minister Michael Hadjipantila said Saturday that the ministry is aware of the Deltacrone reports and that there is currently no cause for concern.
Hadjipantila added that more about the disputed version is needed this week, adding that he is proud of the country’s scientists for their findings.
