In a recent interview with Marvel, Si Spurrier, the writer of the series, discussed Nightcrawler’s evolution from the Krakoan Age to the Fall of X era. Spurrier acknowledged the significant challenges faced by Nightcrawler and the entire mutant community, highlighting how Kurt’s vigilantism serves as a form of therapy. He also revealed that the events in Fall of X will have a profound impact on the character as he takes on the alternate identity of Spider-Man. Spurrier emphasized the balance between exploring emotional truths and embarking on an adventurous journey filled with fun and excitement.

Spurrier further elaborated on Nightcrawler’s new masked appearance and its reasons. By blending in as a non-mutant among the various Spider-Heroes in New York City, Nightcrawler aims to exploit the positive perception that the city holds towards them and protect his true identity. The mysterious reasons behind the absence of mutant-sensing Sentinels detecting the deception will be revealed throughout the story arc.

In this new series, Nightcrawler leaves Krakoa searching for self-discovery but finds himself on the run. After surviving the devastating attacks during the Hellfire Gala, which resulted in the tragic loss of mutant lives, Nightcrawler seeks refuge in New York City. However, the once-welcoming city has grown hostile towards mutants, prompting Nightcrawler to adopt the disguise of Spider-Man and navigate through the dangers undetected.

According to Spurrier, the transition from the X-Men series to Spider-Man bridges the gap between devoted fans and new readers alike. While existing readers will enjoy the organic progression of Nightcrawler’s ongoing story and uncover various Easter eggs, new readers can easily dive into the series without prior knowledge of past storylines.
