Discovery of a new gas field in the Caribbean

Colombian oil company Ecopetrol and Brazil’s Petrobras said on Friday they had discovered a new gas field in the Caribbean.

The statement added: “Ecopetrol and Petrobras confirm the discovery of a natural gas accumulation with the Uchuva-1 exploration well, which was drilled to great depths in Colombia, 32 km from the coast and 76 km from the city of Santa Marta.”

The statement indicated that the depth in the area is about 830 meters.

For his part, Colombian President Ivan Duque stressed that this is the most important discovery in this area in the last thirty years.

“This discovery confirms that the Colombian Caribbean is one of the main sources of gas for our country,” the head of state wrote on Twitter.

The two companies will continue to work on the site to determine the gas reserves in the discovered field.
