Dortmund Secures Quarter-Final Spot in German Cup After Beating Bochum

Borussia Dortmund won their place in the German Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday, with a 2-1 victory over Bochum. Dortmund, who will face Chelsea in the Champions League round of 16 next week, have won all five of their games this year, including four league games.

In the first half, Bochum had the upper hand, but faced a disciplined defense from Dortmund. Julian Brandt came close to opening the scoring from a free-kick, and striker Sebastian Aller sent a shot over the bar from a solitary position by Bochum goalkeeper Manuel Reimann in the 43rd minute.

Dortmund got their breakthrough in first-half stoppage time. Reimann came out of the area penalty to clear the ball, but it reached Dortmund player Emre Chan on the midfield line, who shot into an empty net from 50 meters away.

Bochum were the better side after the break, winning a 64th-minute penalty after a long VAR check for handball. Kevin Stoeger sent goalkeeper Gregor Copil the wrong way to equalise.

Dortmund needed some luck to secure their victory, as Marco Reus, who came on as a 67th-minute substitute, scored the winning goal three minutes later. Judd Billingham stepped up and sent the ball to his captain in the area, who finished the job.

Borussia Dortmund have now secured their place in the German Cup quarter-finals, with a 2-1 victory over Bochum. Dortmund have won all five of their games this year, including four league games, and will face Chelsea in the Champions League round of 16 next week.
