Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball Super is a Japanese television series drawn by Toyotarou. It is a sequel to Toriyama’s original Dragon Ball manga. It follows the exploits of Goku and his comrades during the ten-year skip following Majin Buu’s defeat. In June 2015, it began publication in Shueisha’s monthly shnen manga magazine V Jump. Viz Media and Shueisha released the manga in English on the Manga Plus platform. Toei Animation released a 131-episode anime television series adaption that aired in Japan from July 2015 to March 2018. Dragon Ball Super: Broly, the second film, was released in December 2018 and became the franchise’s highest-grossing anime film. On June 11, 2022, a sequel, Super Hero, was released.

Four years after defeating Majin Buu, Goku is shown working as a farmer and living peacefully with his family and friends. Beerus, the God of Destruction, wakes after decades of sleep. Beerus searches the Super Saiyan God with the assistance of his Angel assistant and teacher, Whis, warning him to destroy the Earth if he loses against him. With the support of his allies, Goku turns into the Super Saiyan God, confronts Beerus, and fails. Nonetheless, his efforts satisfy Beerus, who spares the world.

After that, as Goku and Vegeta are training with Whis, the remains of Frieza’s army collect the Dragon Balls and resurrect Frieza. Frieza comes to Earth wanting revenge after completing his training. Despite reaching the Golden Frieza transformation, Goku and Vegeta beat him. They are proficient in the Super Saiyan Blue transformation. Despite this, Frieza destroys the Earth, but Whis turns back time, allowing Goku to defeat Frieza.

Champa, Beerus’ brother and Universe Six’s God of Destruction, try to convince Beerus to host a tournament amongst the strongest warriors from their universes. The winner receives Super Dragon Balls, planet-sized Dragon Balls with nearly limitless wish-granting ability. Champa aims to replace Universe Six’s bleak Earth with Universe Seven’s for food. Goku and his pals participate in the competition. The tournament ends in a match between Goku and Hit. Goku forfeits the game since he cannot battle Hit at full strength. Hit loses the championship match to Universe Seven. Beerus secretly hopes for the Super Dragon Balls to rebuild the Earth of Universe Six.

Lord Zen, the Omni-King of all worlds, meets and befriends Goku, who promises to bring him a friend. Later, Future Trunks arrives, this time with information on an adversary that resembles Goku, Goku Black. They learn that Goku Black is Zamasu, a Supreme Kai apprentice from Universe Ten. As part of his plan to annihilate all mortals, the latter utilized the Super Dragon Balls to abduct Goku’s body from another reality. Zamasu and the future timeline are later removed from existence by Future Zen, who follows Goku back to the present and becomes Present Zen’s friend. Trunks depart for another timeline.

Later, both Zens convene the Tournament of Power, where fighter teams from eight of the twelve worlds compete, with vanquished universes obliterated. The competition is attended by Goku, his friends, Android 17, and a temporarily restored Frieza. They face up against strong fighters like Universe Eleven’s Jiren. Goku develops a new form called Ultra Instinct, which allows him to battle without thinking. The tournament concludes with Goku and Frieza eliminating Jiren, leaving Android 17 as the Universe 7 victor. He receives one Super Dragon Ball wish and restores the erased universes. Frieza has been revived permanently.

Frieza and his rebuilt army are on the hunt for the Dragon Balls. During his hunt, Frieza encounters two exiled Saiyan survivors, Broly and his father Paragus, the latter of whom seeks revenge on Vegeta for his father’s isolation of Broly before the destruction of the Saiyan homeworld. Broly easily defeats Goku and Vegeta, fusing them into “Gogeta.” Still, before Gogeta can kill Broly, he is spared by Frieza’s soldiers, Cheelai and Lemo. Frieza escapes the planet, swearing revenge.
