Dune: Spice Wars leaves Early Access

Dune is a real juggernaut in the world of science-fiction. It inspired many works and had the right to some adaptations. Today, it is a video game that interests us. It is Dune Spice Wars, a game developed by Shiro Games and publisher Funcom. Genre? A 4X-like real-time strategy game. The goal? “Lead one of the Great Houses of the Imperium to dominate Arrakis and the spice trade.” And that made thousands of players want to jump into the title’s early access. The latter has been launched since April 2022. So it was time to finalize things and release the full game, right? Well, the title took advantage of gamescom to announce its official release date.

Over its early access, the title welcomed new mechanics and features. Jumbled up, the inhabitants of Arrakis discovered the addition of a multiplayer mode, a new House, new buildings, scenarios and units as well as significant improvements to the AI. In all, no less than five big updates have come to improve the title. And it worked! On its 6,687 Steam reviews, Dune: Spice Wars averages very positive ratings. The game visibly succeeds brilliantly in transcribing the universe of Frank Herbert and fulfilling its promise of play. “Easy-to-learn, hard to master.” Suffice to say that we must watch the release of this title in September. An exit window that falls wonderfully well.

Waiting for Dune 2…

The timing is pretty good for Dune: Spice Wars. The game will indeed be released a little over a month before the arrival of the film. Dune: Part Two. It is therefore the ideal game to immerse yourself in the universe created by Frank Herbert. As a reminder, Dunes 2 is the direct sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s film released in 2021. Spectators will therefore be able to find the brilliant Paul Atreides, a young man who had to go to the most dangerous planet in the universe in order to save his family. We will of course find a large part of the cast with the presence of Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson or even Josh Brolin. Denis Villeneuve will of course be directing again, and he also co-wrote the screenplay again with Jon Spaihts, but without Eric Roth this time. As a reminder, Dune: Part Two is scheduled for November 1 in our cinemas.
