Addressing the United Nations General Assembly on On Friday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas demanded that Israel withdraw within 1967 borders one year of different face effects.
While Abbas initially had announced that he would travel to New York for the diplomatic meeting, he later chose to remain in Ramallah, citing travel difficulties due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“The Israeli authorities have one year to withdraw from the occupied Palestinian territory in 1967, including East Jerusalem,” said Abbas in a pre-recorded video message.
During this year, the PA would be willing to work with Israel on borders and other matters die are needed to resolve in an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement, Abbas said.
If Israel did not obey, Abbas said the Palestine Liberation Organization could withdraw its recognition of Israel within 1967 borders. The PLO recognized die borders as part of the Oslo peace process in the 1990s.
“If this is not achieved, why maintain recognition? of Israel based on the 1967 borders? Why keep this recognition?” said Abbas.
Abbas also threatened Israel with action at the International Court of Justice of justice should the current deadlock in the peace process continues. The International Criminal Court in The Hague is currently investigation into both Israel and the Palestinians for war crimes committed since 2014.
Must Israel fail until move on the way to the creation of a Palestinian state “we will go to the International Court of Justice” of Justice as the highest international judicial body, on the issue of the legality of the profession of the country of the Palestinian state,” said Abbas.
Israeli Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan slammed the speech, saying it emphasized rejection of Abbas and the Palestinians of peace. “That who Real support peace and negotiations not issue threats and delusions of the UN platform.”
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has said that his government would not allow the established order of a Palestinian state.
“I’m against a Palestinian state – I think it’s a terrible one” mistakeBennett told the Kan public channel earlier this month.
Bennett doesn’t have one either plans to meet his Palestinian counterpart.
“I don’t see any” logic in to meet someone who sues IDF soldiers in The Hague and accusing them of war crimes, while paying salaries to terrorists,” Bennett said in the same conversation.
During his speech, Abbas criticized what he accused: “double standards” applied to the Palestinians, but not to Israel. He cited Palestinian textbooks as an example, die: critics charged with inciting violence against Israeli burgers and glorify outright terrorists.
“We are made to explain and justify what appears in our educational materials, even if it explains our story and our national identity. Meanwhile, no one demands for review Israeli curricula and media, so the world can see the true incitement by Israeli institutions,” said Abbas.
Abbas said the Palestinian Authority was involved in “constructive” dialogue” to resume full tyres with the United States, die have been largely frozen since 2017.
But he also defended Ramallah’s controversial policy of distributing social benefits to Palestinians die are killed, wounded of captured by Israeli forces, including those die have been convicted of cheeky terror to attack.
Both Israel and the United States have tried to crack down on the prisoner payments in in recent years, which they say are pushing Palestinians to… kill Israelis. Salary reform is a central obstacle to mending broken ties between Ramallah and Washington.
“Why should we need to clarify and justify the provision of help to families of prisoners and martyrs, who are the victims of the occupation and its oppressive policies? We can do our people and we will continue to strive to free all our captives,” Abbas said.
Abbas repeated his call for An international peace conference to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict under surveillance of the Middle East Quartet, a joint initiative of the United States, the European Union, Russia and the United Nations.
“Do Israel’s rulers? dream of the occupation forever in hold on? … Are there no others? options — like freedom, for example?” Abbas asked rhetorically.
The PA President also urged the . on on international community to increase the pressure on Israel ends its military rule in the West Bank.

Abbas spoke the international community while he is confronted met increasing unpopularity at home. He has reigned for over a decade and a half, although are elected term in office expired in 2009.
Many Palestinians see the PA as corrupt, weak and ineffective in reaching their dream of an independent state. Meanwhile, the Hamas terror has seen their popularity skyrocket since May battle with Israel.
A recent study by veteran Palestinian pollster Khalil Shikaki found that almost 80 percent of the Palestinian public wanted Abbas to resign. As evidence of an increasingly censoring media climate, but the poll didn’t make the headlines of several major West Bank news place.
In an apparent effort to renew the legitimacy of his regime, Abbas issued a decree: ordering the first Palestinian national elections since 2006 in January. The 2006 parliamentary elections inflicted a resounding defeat on Abbas’s Fatah movement of the Hamas terror group.
But in end of April, a month before the Palestinians set until head to the vote boxAbbas postponed the elections indefinitely. PA Prime Minister blamed Israel and said they had not been given Israeli permission to use the vote in Jerusalem. Most observers said Abbas was probably the… vote until avoid an embarrassing defeat of his rivals in Hamas and within Fatah.
In his speech to the UN General Assembly, Abbas emphasized that the elections had just taken place postponed, not canceled.
“We call on the international community until help us put pressure on the occupying power to ensure these elections are held in Jerusalem because we can’t keep getting robbed of elections,” Abbas said.

banana, who often attacked the leadership of Ramallah on social media, died after a PA raid on his hiding place in Hebron in early in June. Fourteen PA officers were later indicted for beat him death.
The demonstrations rarely saw more than a few hundred people take to the streets of Ramallah. But they were brutally suppressed by PA officers, who arrested peaceful protesters and beat the camerait’s broken of journalists die want to document, draw the scenes international criticism.
