EA Cancels Star Wars FPS at Respawn: Focus Shifts to Jedi and Apex Legends Series
Electronic Arts has made the decision to cancel the development of an upcoming Star Wars first-person shooter game at Respawn.
The FPS game, which was announced in 2022, was being led by Peter Hirschmann, a former LucasArts veteran and co-creator of Medal of Honor. Hirschmann has a background working on popular titles like the original Battlefront games and The Force Unleashed.
In a statement released on Wednesday, EA Entertainment president Laura Miele shared that after evaluating their projects, they have opted for Respawn to concentrate on the Jedi and Apex Legends series. Miele praised Respawn’s ability to create outstanding gaming experiences and connect with players.
The decision to shift focus away from the Star Wars FPS game was made to prioritize projects based on owned brands and to continue supporting existing games. Miele emphasized that this move does not reflect the team’s talent or dedication to the project, but rather a strategic decision to cater to players’ enthusiasm for Jedi and other Respawn franchises.
Last year, actor Cameron Monaghan hinted at a third installment in the Star Wars Jedi series, following the departure of director Stig Asmussen from Respawn Entertainment. Asmussen had expressed his desire to complete a three-game story arc for the Star Wars Jedi game series before leaving the studio.
