Earnings in foreign currency of Egypt in 2020. How did it get there and where did it go?

Recent official data revealed that the Suez Canal traffic charges were in tops the list of major sources of revenue in Egyptian foreign currency in the transport sector during the fiscal year 2019/2020, as the total tax value of the Suez Canal was approximately $ 5.805 billion, followed by Foreign currency receipts from Egyptian shipping companies “Al-Nawaleen” amounted to $ 577,664 million.

The list included, according to data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, the receipts of “passenger services” of each airline, which amounted to approximately 946 million and 923 thousand dollars, hence the charter of aircraft and ships “port services – commissions – agency fees”, for a value of 208.853 million dollars, then the proceeds of the Egyptian airline “Al-Nawaleen” for a value of 145.429 million dollars.

Total revenue in foreign exchange recorded $ 128.9 billion during the fiscal year 2019/2020, compared to approximately $ 122.1 billion during the fiscal year 2018/2019, an increase of approximately 5.6%.

Government revenue was the most significant increase in revenue in foreign currency, reaching $ 3.9 billion during the 2019/2020 year, compared to about $ 0.7 billion during the 2018/2019 fiscal year, an increase of approximately 457%.

The Statistical Authority stated that the total payments in foreign currency amounted to approximately $ 143.2 billion during the fiscal year 2019/2020, compared to approximately $ 124.2 billion during the fiscal year 2018/2019, an increase of approximately 15.3% .

Payments to financial accounts (portfolio investments) were the most important aspects of the payments in foreign exchange, reaching $ 27.7 billion in 2019/2020, compared to about $ 16.3 billion in fiscal year 2018/19, an increase of about 70%.
