Eastenders’ Gurlaine Kaur Garcha reveals ordeal of racist abuse


Actress Gurlaine Kaur Garcha has revealed that she is left “Angry, sad and embarrassed” after being a victim of racial violence.

the Eastenders actress, who as Ash Panesar in soap, said the shocking incident “came out of nowhere.”

Abuse left her in tears and feeling “ashamed” because she was unable to “brush off”The tirade of the nameless woman and just forget about it.

Gurlaine has opened up on the racist attack on Instagram, post on June 7, 2021:

“Yesterday, I was the victim of verbal racial abuse.

“It came out of nowhere, I wasn’t expecting it, and even though I know racism exists and I could always be a victim of it, it was still deeply deeply shocking.

“In a totally unprovoked setting attack, a woman told me to go back home, to go back to where I came from and stay there.

“The initial shock was that someone was so comfortable telling me this in public, not one but several times.

“He made I feel angry, sad and embarrassed.

“It upset me, and as result of being upset, I felt weak. I was ashamed that I couldn’t just brush it off and carry on with my day as usual.

“Instead, what followed were tears of sadness and frustration.

“How can anyone be allowed to say something so racist and then walk a way?

“Why then do I have to do face with all the feelings that come with he?

“Why do I tell myself to stay calm and not fight back?” And why do I have to be the one left tears?

“It seems so unfair that I am judged by color of skin.”

She went on say she was particularly upset because she knows racism will continue to exist for coming years.

Gurlaine continued, “My thoughts and feelings of fear was not just about this moment, but about a future where my children, nieces and nephews will have to face the same discrimination and the same hatred.

“My heart sinks so deep down I know this won’t be the one last time i experience Something like this.”

Gurlaine Kaur Garcha did not intend to speak about the incident but hopes that by speaking out, she can help other who are subject to similar racist abuse.

The 27-year-old added: “At first I wasn’t going to say anything, but when I woke up up this morning and feeling overwhelmed with the same sadness as the day before, I realized that in speaking out it could help somebody who went through the same thing and make them understand that they are not alone.

“When will racism end? I am proud to be British. I am proud that my grand-parents were born in Punjab.

“I am proud that my parents were born in Kenya.

“And I’m proud to be a Sikh. I celebrate all of these things. I wish others too.

Gurlaine was in Eastenders since 2019. She has been introduced as Iqra Ahmed’s bisexual Sikh girlfriend.
