Egyptian Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad announced that Egypt has received a $9.13 million grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The grant aims to scale up the Greater Cairo Air Pollution and Climate Change Project and will enhance the environmental benefits of the project both locally and globally through improved e-waste management and healthcare.

The Environment Minister said the grant will promote the development of the health sectors and digital transformation as one of Egypt’s top priorities, and support development efforts that are health-conscious and sustainable livelihoods, as it will increase the Egyptian government’s current interventions in support of moving towards systems to improve the management of electronic and medical waste by focusing on the framework. spend in vain; and reduce emissions of POPs.

It is worth noting that the Greater Cairo Air Pollution and Climate Change Management Project was approved in 2021 to support Egypt’s efforts to reduce pollution in Greater Cairo, with a focus on reducing vehicle emissions, improving solid waste management and strengthening air and climate solutions. -making system.

The expansion of the project aims to support the National Action Plan on Persistent Organic Pollutants with a focus on strengthening the regulatory framework, data collection, management and monitoring, awareness raising, safe handling capabilities and the sector’s ability to manage special wastes and disposal.
