Egyptian electricity minister in Al-Arabiya: 30,000 megawatts will enhance the interconnection capacities of the Arab world

In an interview with Al-Arabiya, the Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker, confirmed the government’s success in overcoming the deficit and realizing a surplus that would allow it to export electricity after reaching the self-sufficiency.

Shaker said Egypt added 30,000 megawatts of electricity power supply to the mainsRevealing the electricity connection work with some neighboring countries, including Saudi Arabia and Jordan, and exploiting the different peak hours of energy consumption, in order to facilitate the exchange process, in optimal way by relying on storage stations.

He added that Egypt is working on exporting electricity after achieving self-sufficiency, indicating a £ 36 billion investment to improve power grids. in Egypt.

In 2014, a comparison contract was signed for the network capacities to demonstrate that the addition to the network during 7 years exceeded what was available in Egypt in past.

He said the interconnection line with Saudi Arabia hosts 3,000 megawatts of electrical capacity.

He stressed what the state would endure for 5 years in subsidizing electricity to the tune of £ 76 billion, explaining that heavy energy consumption would result in larger sums.
