Egyptian Transport Minister: Collect train tickets in dollars and euros

Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel Al-Wazir has announced a circular to foreigners, starting next month.

He specifies that in recent days 1,023 people have paid the value of train tickets in hard currency, specifying that a collaboration has been made with a bank through the account zeroto allow reservations in dollars and euros to all foreigners, and that the bank is closely monitored by the Central Bank.

The minister stressed that the Transport Ministry’s relationship with dollars helps to provide hard currency, be it the euro or the dollar, which helps to ensure that tourists do not resort to exchanging dollars on the black market, explaining that the Transport Ministry Transport will use the foreign currency proceeds from the collection of tickets to pay the contract value of recently used trains from abroad, and that the ministry seeks to reduce financial burdens, especially in hard currency, on the shoulders of the Central Bank.
