Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming increasingly popular, and road trips in them are becoming more feasible with the new partnership between Electrify America and TravelCenters of America. The companies have announced plans to install 1,000 chargers at 200 TravelCenters locations along major highways over the next five years, with the first chargers launching this year. This is in addition to the 2,000 chargers that General Motors, EVgo, and Pilot Flying J plan to install at 500 Pilot Flying J travel centers.
The installation of these chargers will help to ease consumers’ range anxiety on road trips and make EV ownership more accessible. TravelCenters of America operates 281 locations in 44 states, and they have the space needed to build EV charging infrastructure. The chargers will be owned by TravelCenters of America and operated and maintained by Electrify America, who will also provide warranty and 24/7 support services.
Electrify America currently has 800 charging stations and 3,500 chargers across the U.S. in 46 states, and they plan to expand to 49 states and the District of Columbia. Any electric make or model can charge at Electrify America charge points, though Tesla owners need an adapter.
The partnership between Electrify America and TravelCenters of America is an important step in making EVs more accessible and encouraging more people to switch to electric vehicles. The installation of 1,000 chargers at 200 TravelCenters locations along major highways will help to reduce range anxiety on road trips and make it easier for people to travel in EVs. In addition, the chargers will be owned by TravelCenters of America and operated and maintained by Electrify America, who will also provide warranty and 24/7 support services. This partnership is an important step in the right direction and will help to make EVs more accessible to the public.
